Matthew Brahms

I build what I depend on.

Platform engineer in Austin, Texas. The systems I run at work have to stay up; the ones at home just have to be mine.

Matthew Brahms
Self-hoster, runner, horn player.

Music came first.

Columbus, then The Ohio State University, then Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, all for the horn. The engineering came later and borrowed the practice habits, creativity, and attention to craftsmanship.

I like knowing how it all works.

80+ services in production, all running on machines I own. Part privacy, part curiosity, mostly stubbornness, 100% self‑hosted.

Long miles. A clearer head.

Five years, a marathon habit, and a crew called the Sparks ⚡. Two rules: always finish the run, and never leave anyone behind.

A fascination with naval aviation.

Carrier decks run the most unforgiving operation on earth and write down every lesson. Good infrastructure borrows from that playbook.
